The Ministry of Health (MOH) was informed by the Centre for Health Protection, Hong Kong on 18 May 2012 that a group of students who came to Singapore to play in a rugby tournament between 20-22 April 2012 at Turf City had subsequently developed symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis after returning to Hong Kong.   More»

MOH held our Post-Budget 2012 Dialogue at the Ren Ci Community Hospital on Sun 18 Mar 2012, chaired by Minister Gan Kim Yong and Minister of State Dr Amy Khor. Issues surfaced by participants included the measures to promote affordability, beef up manpower, and promote personal responsibility. Health Minister Mr Gan Kim Yong presented the “Healthcare 2020” Masterplan, a set of strategies to guide the government in building an inclusive healthcare system for the future. Healthcare 2020 will focus on three strategic objectives - enhancing accessibility, quality and affordability of healthcare for Singaporeans. As part of this effort, the Ministry will invest in infrastructure to expand capacity in the healthcare system, and retain and grow the pool of healthcare professionals. The Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (MDAS) held its inaugural fund raising walk titled “Go The Dystance” on 3 Mar 2012. Joining the organisers and members of MDAS on the walk were the Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor, as well as members of the public, including students. In flagging off the walk, Dr Khor noted that the concept of an interactive walk with people with muscular dystrophy exemplifies powerfully the idea of an inclusive society - a key feature of Budget 2012. When a child is diagnosed with cancer and has to undergo intensive treatment, he or she often has to stop going to school for a while. The set-up of the School-at-Viva-CCF Hub at the new Novena Specialist Centre, a collaborative effort between the Viva Foundation for Children with Cancer and the Children’s Cancer Foundation, now means that children with cancer can continue learning and mingling with their peers even as they undergo chemotherapy, instead of having to miss school. Enhancing the subsidy framework for intermediate and long-term care (ILTC) is a key initiative of the Ministry’s Budget 2012. Subsidy levels for this sector will be raised, and extended to cover more households in the middle income brackets. With these subsidy changes, around two-thirds of Singaporean households (or about 80% of elderly) will benefit from some form of financial assistance, with the middle income households seeing the highest increase in subsidy levels. The Government will spend $250 million annually, or about $60 million more than it does now, on the care of some 40,000 elderly served by community hospitals, nursing homes, day rehabilitation and day care centres, as well as home-based services such as home nursing and home help. Starting 15 Jan 12, more Singaporeans will benefit from subsidized GP and dental care! Formerly known as the Primary Care Partnership Care (PCPS), the scheme is renamed the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) - 社保援助计划 to better reflect its objective and reach. The CHAS looks at helping more middle and low income Singaporeans enjoy subsidized care at private GP and dental clinics. A 1st in our efforts to fight myopia in our young children! Preliminary findings from study on HPB's National Myopia Prevention Programme show the first ever evidence of reducing childhood myopia prevalence in any population worldwide! This as revealed by Minister Gan at today’s opening ceremony of the 12th National Eye Care Week starting 12 Nov. To complement these efforts, the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) will be establishing a Myopia Clinic next year to address myopia amongst children and provide appropriate care and treatment.   More»

Starting April 2012, companies will have more funds to tap into to promote the mental and physical well-being of their employees.
