Patient Safety

The Ministry of Health works collaboratively with healthcare institutions and providers to ensure that patients receive high quality and safe care. We have over the years introduced quality improvement systems such as sentinel event reporting and root cause analysis that equip healthcare providers with the relevant skills and tools to identify causal factors for variations in performance, develop appropriate measures to address system vulnerabilities and implement improvements.

These efforts have resulted in safer and better care for our patients. For example our public healthcare institutions have managed to significantly reduce infections associated with devices used in intensive care units (ICUs) with a programme of stringent infection control measures, surveillance, benchmarking and quality improvement.
