Cessation of temperature screening at border checkpoints and termination of 993 ambulance services

Singapore has since March 2003 maintained its temperature screening for all arriving passengers at all the border checkpoints. Given that the last SARS case in the world was isolated on 22 April 2004 and with the onset of a warmer climate in the Northern Hemisphere in the coming months, there is currently minimal SARS-related public health threat to Singapore. It is therefore timely to remove the temperature screening measures at the border checkpoints. The cessation of temperature screening measures will take effect from 9 June 2004 at 9am.
The 993 ambulance services will also be discontinued on the same day.
The authorities will nevertheless remain alert to the earliest onset of SARS around the world so that appropriate measures will be quickly re-introduced if warranted.
