Situational Report

Singapore has confirmed 34 new cases (970th – 1003rd case) of Influenza A (H1N1-2009) today, bringing the total tally to 1,003 confirmed cases. No new cluster has been reported today.

2. Investigations are on-going for 69 cases. Of the 62 cases investigated today, there were 39 local cases and 23 imported cases. Of the cumulative number of 934 cases investigated thus far, there have been 541 local cases and 393 imported cases.

Coping with Influenza A (H1N1- 2009)

3. The current strain remains mild, except for high-risk individuals with underlying medical conditions where complications and even deaths may occur. 

4. The approach in managing this virus should be largely based on personal responsibility.  All Singaporeans should observe good personal hygiene at all times.  If they are unwell with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose), they should promptly seek medical attention. The doctors at the nearest Pandemic Preparedness Clinic or polyclinics or their usual GPs would be able to manage them. Based on the severity of the illness and other risk factors, the doctors at these clinics may refer patients to hospitals for further management. Our hospitals are now positioned to manage the more severe cases.
