Two things to know before you make a claim
1. You should be unable to perform three or more Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
Under ElderShield, you will be eligible for the insurance payouts if you are unable to perform 3 or more of the following ADLs independently, with or without mobility aids (e.g. walking aids, wheelchair). This means that you will require the physical assistance of another person for the ADL.
The ability to wash in the bath or shower (including getting into and out of the bath or shower) or wash by other means.
The ability to put on, take off, secure and unfasten all garments and, as appropriate, any braces, artificial limbs or other surgical or medical appliances.
The ability to feed oneself food after it has been prepared and made available.
The ability to use the lavatory or manage bowel and bladder function through the use of protective undergarments or surgical appliances if appropriate.
Walking or Moving Around
The ability to move indoors from room to room on level surfaces.
The ability to move from a bed to an upright chair or wheelchair, and vice versa.
2. There is a fee for the disability assessment
The disability assessment can either be done by visiting the appointed assessor, or can be done at home, both at a fee payable to the assessor at the time of assessment.
If your ElderShield claim is successful, your insurer will reimburse the full cost of the assessment fee to you.
|Type of Assessment||Fees per Assessment|
|Visit to the appointed assessor||$50|

3. Submit the Forms
Complete the ElderShield Claim Form and hand them to the assessor, who will fill in the necessary sections and submit them to your ElderShield insurer.
|Once your claim has been approved, you will receive the first payout either by cheque or it will be credited into your bank account within 90 days.|
