Online Consultation on Draft National Guidelines for the Safe Prescribing of Opioids

Background

In view of mounting global concerns over the abuse and misuse of opioids, the Director of Medical Services (DMS), Ministry of Health, has appointed the MOH Opioids Committee, chaired by Prof Tay Boon Keng, Emeritus Consultant (Orthopaedic Surgery), Singapore General Hospital, to develop National Guidelines for the Safe Prescribing of Opioids.

2          We are seeking your feedback from doctors, dentists, nurses and pharmacists on the draft guidelines [PDF, 2.1MB] from 8 Aug 2019 to 6 Sep 2019. You may provide feedback to any or all of the 5 sections based on your specialisation/area of interest.  The links to other sections will also be provided at the end of each feedback form.

3          There are a total of 5 sections of the draft guidelines:

  • Acute Pain
  • Chronic Non-Cancer Pain
  • Cancer Pain and Pain in Life-Limiting Non-Cancer Diseases
  • Non-Pain Indications
  • Opioid Addiction

4         Safe opioid prescribing is critical to ensuring that Singapore does not have to face the same issues of the abuse and misuse of opioids. Your response to this survey will set a strong foundation for the guidelines, which in turn supports good clinical practice. As such, we hope you will provide your honest feedback on how we can improve this set of guidelines so we can build a safer opioid prescribing culture in Singapore.
