Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy in Dental Treatments

We refer to our letter dated 24 Oct 2013 (ref: MH 50:01/2) on the use of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy.

2   The Ministry would like to update all dental clinics on the use of PRP therapy in dental treatments. The accepted indications as recommended by College of Dental Surgeons, Singapore for PRP therapy in dentistry are:

   i) Enhancing healing of sinus lift bone grafts.
ii) Enhancing healing of bone grafts to the maxillofacial (jaw) region.
iii) Improving bony healing in periodontal attachment loos surgery.
iv) Periodontal soft tissue regeneration with free gingival grafts

3   Any licensed dental clinic that intend to provide PRP therapy for indications other than those listed at Paragraph 2 may only provide it in the context of a formal clinical trial. This means that the clinic needs to apply for a Clinical Trial Certificate from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) and obtain approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB) before embarking on a clinical trial.

4   Should you require further clarifications, please email to elis@moh.gov.sg.
