40 More Cases Discharged, 447 New Cases of COVID-19 Infection Confirmed

          As of 15 April 2020, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed and verified an additional 447 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore. The breakdown is as follows:

a)         Imported cases: 0
We have not had any new imported cases in the past 5 days. 

b)         Local cases in the community: 38
In the past two weeks, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable, with an average of 36 cases per day. 

c)          Work Permit holders (residing outside dormitories): 5

d)          Work Permit holders (residing in dormitories): 404

The number of new cases amongst Work Permit holders has increased significantly, from an average of 48 cases per day in the week before, to 260 cases per day in the past week, especially with our ongoing efforts to undertake more active testing of the workers. The vast majority of them are residing in dormitories.

3.          Of the new cases, 68% are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.


Links between previous cases found

4.          In the past week (8 April to 14 April), MOH has uncovered links for 375 previously unlinked cases (see Annex A).

5.          Further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases. A summary of the confirmed cases are in Annex B.

Update on condition of confirmed cases

7.          40 more cases[1] of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 649 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

8.          Of the 1,496 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving. 26 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit. 1,540 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. 10 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

9.          Case 3381, an 80 year-old male Malaysian national, has passed away on 14 April from causes not related to COVID-19 infection. Under MOH’s enhanced surveillance, he had been tested for COVID-19 after his demise, and his test result came back positive.
