The Ministry of Health (MOH) has served a notice of interim suspension of approval as approved medical practitioner under the MediSave and MediShield Life schemes on Dr Lim Yong Chin on 4 September 2023. The suspension will take effect from 19 September 2023 on an interim basis, until criminal proceedings against Dr Lim (including any appeals) have concluded.

2.     While under suspension, Dr Lim can continue to provide medical treatment as long as his registration with and his practicing certificate issued by the Singapore Medical Council remain valid. However, Dr Lim will not be able to make Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS)/MediSave/MediShield Life claims on behalf of his patients for medical treatments and services.

3.     The criminal proceedings are in relation to his alleged cheating of the National Healthcare Group Polyclinics and SingHealth Polyclinics into disbursing monies to clinics under the Access Medical group, through the submission of fictitious claims under CHAS.

4.     MOH takes a serious view of fraudulent claims, and will not hesitate to take action where non-compliance is uncovered. We remind healthcare professionals to uphold a high standard of professionalism and adhere to the Singapore Medical Council’s Ethical Code and Ethical Guidelines.

5.     We encourage patients to actively engage their doctors and dentists if they have any queries on their bills. CHAS, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation cardholders who wish to check on claims for CHAS subsidies made on their behalf, may do so by logging into the “MY CHAS” module on the CHAS website (www.chas.sg). If members of the public come across any suspicious or unusual CHAS/MediSave claims made for them, they can contact 1800-275-2427 for CHAS claims. If they encounter suspicious MediSave claims, they can write to www.moh.gov.sg/feedback.
