1.    Six nurses were honoured with the President’s Award for Nurses this year. They received their award from President Halimah Yacob at the Nurses’ Day Reception held at the Istana on 25 July 2018. This brings the total number of recipients since the inception of the Award to 67. 

2.    The highest accolade in Singapore’s nursing profession, the award recognises nurses who have made exemplary contributions to the profession and community. These nurses have been outstanding in patient care, education, leadership, research and administration. They are mentors that nurture the younger nurses and diligently serve the community in their professional capacities.

3.    The award is open to all registered nurses from healthcare institutions in the public, private, and community care sectors, and the educational institutions. Nurses are nominated by their institutions, public, or peers, and interviewed by a panel chaired by Dr Chia Shi-Lu, Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health, which includes Ms Tan Soh Chin, Chief Nursing Officer of the Ministry of Health.

4.    This year’s award recipients include two heads of nursing, including one who is the first private sector recipient in the Award’s history. In addition, there are two deputy heads of nursing and two Advanced Practice Nurses. All six have played key roles to strengthen nursing and drive changes in support of healthcare transformation.

5.    The six recipients are: 

  • Ms Ng Gaik Nai
    Chief Nurse, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital & Deputy Group Chief Nurse, SingHealth Services

  • Ms Soh Poh Choo Mona
    Director of Nursing, Gleneagles Hospital

  • Ms Shirley Heng
    Deputy Chief Nurse, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

  • Ms Goh Meh Meh
    Deputy Director of Nursing, Singapore General Hospital

  • Ms Ang Ching Ching
    Advanced Practice Nurse & Senior Nurse Clinician, Tan Tock Seng Hospital

  • Ms Li Wei
    Advanced Practice Nurse & Senior Nurse Clinician, National Neuroscience Institute

6.    Each awardee received a trophy, a certificate and a $10,000 cash prize that can be used for their professional and personal development.
