Coping with Influenza A (H1N1- 2009)
The current strain remains mild, except for high-risk individuals with underlying medical conditions where complications and even deaths may occur.
The approach in managing this virus should be largely based on personal responsibility. All Singaporeans should observe good personal hygiene at all times. If they are unwell with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose), they should promptly seek medical attention. The doctors at the nearest Pandemic Preparedness Clinic or polyclinics or their usual GPs would be able to manage them. Based on the severity of the illness and other risk factors, the doctors at these clinics may refer patients to hospitals for further management. Our hospitals are now positioned to manage the more severe cases.
The public is advised to check MOH website for latest updates on the situation.
