The Ministry of Health recommends that persons travelling to countries in the Southern hemisphere during the winter season receive the current influenza vaccine at least one to two weeks before departure. The influenza vaccine will protect against the current circulating strains of human influenza viruses.
The Ministry also advises persons aged 65 years or older, persons with chronic heart and lung diseases, and persons with diabetes, who are at a higher risk of developing complications from influenza, to get themselves vaccinated against influenza. The public can consult their family doctor for further advice on influenza vaccination.
