Question No. 2382
To ask the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health what percentage of MediSave account holders have reached the annual withdrawal limit for outpatient chronic disease claims over the last five years, broken down by the age ranges of (i) 50 to 60 years (ii) 60 to 70 years (iii) 70 to 80 years and (iv) 80 years and above, respectively.
Answer
1 From 2021 to 2025, the majority of patients who made MediSave withdrawals for outpatient chronic disease treatment did not reach their applicable annual withdrawal limits. On average, around 1 in 9 patients aged 50 to 59, 1 in 11 aged 60 to 69, 1 in 14 aged 70 to 79, and 1 in 16 aged 80 and above reached their applicable annual withdrawal limits.
2 From 1 January 2027, the annual withdrawal limits for outpatient chronic disease treatment will be increased from $500 to $700 for patients without complex chronic conditions, and from $700 to $1,000 for patients with complex chronic conditions, under the MediSave Chronic and Preventive Care scheme. Patients aged 60 and above can also tap on Flexi-MediSave to further defray their outpatient medical expenses, up to withdrawal limits of $400 per annum.
