The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) would like to alert the public to an inaccurate SMS message regarding the redemption of SG50 Seniors Public Transport Voucher, which has come to our attention. The SMS message states that as part of a SG50 promotion, individuals above the age of 60 years old can receive a $50 public transport top-up at any SMRT offices today. The message did not originate from MOH, MOT or TransitLink, and we are investigating the matter.
2 Responding to the SMS message, a large number of senior citizens have approached TransitLink Ticket Offices and Add Value Machines to redeem their SG50 Seniors Public Transport Voucher today. Although this is ahead of the official start of the redemption period on 15 June 2015, we have allowed this early redemption to proceed, rather than turn the elderly away.
3 There is no need to rush to redeem the voucher as the redemption period is until the end of next year (31 December 2016). From next Monday, TransitLink will arrange for additional counters in 20 locations to facilitate the redemption of the voucher. A list of the locations is available on the TransitLink website (http://www.transitlink.com.sg).
4 As part of the SG50 Seniors package, Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who are 60 years and above on or before 31 December 2015 will receive a SG50 Seniors Public Transport Voucher letter in June 2015. They can bring this letter and credit the voucher into their Senior Citizen Concession Card or any other stored value travel card at any Add Value Machine Plus (AVM+) or TransitLink Ticket Office or Concession Card Replacement Office.
