Question No. 2370
To ask the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health (a) for 2024 and 2025, how many women (i) exhausted all six Government co-funded in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycles without a live birth and (ii) subsequently pursued self-funded treatment and achieved live birth; and (b) how does the Ministry track couples who discontinue treatment after exhausting co-funding, including whether (i) financial considerations are a factor and (ii) such data covers public and private centres.
Answer
1 Between 2020 and 2024, amongst all women who had attempted IVF, about 23% - or 4,424 – achieved a live birth within the six co-funded cycles. About 1% - or 197 – exhausted all six co-funded IVF cycles without a live birth. About 0.2% - or 32 – pursued self-funded treatment after exhausting the co-funded cycles, and achieved a live birth.
2 While public and private Assisted Reproduction (AR) centres must report all attempted IVF cycles to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry does not collect information on the reasons why women did not pursue further IVF treatment after exhausting co-funding.
