Question No. 713
To ask the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health in the last five years (a) how many socially isolated seniors has the Silver Generation Office reached out to; and (b) what proportion of these seniors subsequently participated in at least one programme offered by Active Ageing Centres.
Answer
1 Over the past three years, the Silver Generation Office (SGO) has engaged almost 600,000 seniors. Of these, about 14,000 seniors were assessed to be at risk of social isolation.
2 SGO connects these seniors to community resources, such as Active Ageing Centres (AACs) to People Association’s programmes. Community befrienders will reach out to all these seniors. Seniors who accept the befriending service will be contacted at least monthly.
3 Tackling social isolation is a whole-of-society effort. More than 80% of seniors at-risk of social isolation are engaged by AACs, enrolled in Healthier SG, receiving long term care or healthcare services, or participating in activities organised by People’s Association and Health Promotion Board. Many of them are supported by multiple programmes.
