To ask the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health whether there are any plans to (i) expand dedicated paediatric Accident and Emergency (A&E) facilities in public hospitals and (ii) upgrade existing ones with enhanced child-friendly waiting and treatment areas, family amenities and other comfort features, to better support children and their caregivers during emergency visits.

Answer

1        Paediatric specialty expertise and resources are consolidated at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and National University Hospital (NUH) to ensure the best outcomes for patients. Nonetheless, all public hospitals are equipped to provide initial resuscitation and stabilisation of paediatric patients. Patients requiring specialised paediatrics care would be transferred to KKH or NUH where required.

2        NUH’s Children Emergency has completed renovations this year and renovation plans for KKH Children Emergency are underway. Both renovated facilities would be able to better support children and caregivers.
