Glove Worry
I am concerned about the way surgical and disposable gloves are being used by medical personnel and food handlers. Many a time, I see hawkers handling food and money with the gloves on, and nurses and dental assistants touching things and serving different patients with the same gloves. If the gloves are not changed, could diseases be transmitted to other patients?

Gloves should be changed to avoid infectionIn "Glove Worry" (ST, 30 June), Mrs Suen Hee Lee shared her concerns about the risks of disease transmission. We would like to assure Mrs Suen that we have strict infection control guidelines for all healthcare establishments in Singapore. Healthcare personnel are required to wear gloves for any activity where there is a risk of exposure to infectious materials, and remove the gloves after each procedure. Healthcare personnel should also remove their gloves (or don over-gloves) when there is a need to do other tasks such as adjusting of equipment, answering phone calls or writing notes. We would appreciate if Mrs Suen could contact us at 1800 - 225 4122 to provide more details.
