Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

The Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common childhood disease which spreads easily amongst young children in close proximity with one another. It is generally a mild and self-limiting disease which is endemic in Singapore, with cases occurring throughout the year. To minimise its spread, high standards of personal and environmental hygiene should be maintained. Parents should ensure that their children adopt the following good practices:
Wash hands with soap before eating and after going to the toilet;
Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and throw the tissue away into a bin immediately;
Do not share eating utensils.
