Health Minister to attend 58th Session of WHO Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region

Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, will be attending the 58th Session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific Region in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, from 10 to 14 September 2007. Mr Khaw will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
Health representatives from the Western Pacific Region, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea and Pacific Island states, are expected to congregate for this meeting. The health issues to be discussed will include pandemic influenza preparedness, sharing of flu samples, and combating HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in the region.
Mr Khaw will also visit Seoul to study the Korean healthcare financing system and their use of traditional medicine.
