Question No. 1121
To ask the Minister for Health as more pre-event testing and self-tests will be carried out in a COVID-19 endemic environment, whether the retail price of self-test Antigen Rapid Test (ART) kits and the cost of Pre-Event Tests (PET) can be made more affordable.
Written Answer
The Health Sciences Authority has approved six Antigen Rapid Test (ART) self-test kits for sale at major retailers and e-commerce platforms, and are actively reviewing new kits for public sale. From 1st October onwards, the public can also make an appointment for an ART test at the 20 Quick Test Centres (QTCs), which can be used to fulfill pre-event test (PET) requirements. This is in addition to the network of around 1,000 private clinics that are offering ART tests for PETs. Together, these increase access to tests and could make the tests more competitively priced.
