Man Charged in Court for Breaching Quarantine Order

A 22-year-old male Singapore Citizen, Tay Chun Hsien, was charged in court on 24 April 2020 for an offence under Section 15(4)(b) of the Infectious Diseases Act for breaching his Quarantine Order (QO).
2. On 20 March 2020, Tay was issued a QO which required him to be isolated at home from 19 March to 22 March 2020, 12pm. When the QO was served to Tay, he had acknowledged that he understood the contents of the QO, in particular that he could not leave his place of residence for the entire duration of the quarantine period.
3. On the morning of 22 March, Tay had left his home to go to the neighbourhood shopping mall for breakfast without the permission of Director of Medical Services and thereby, had breached his QO.
4. Any person convicted of an offence under Section 15(4)(b) of the Infectious Diseases Act is liable to a fine of up to $10,000, or up to six months’ imprisonment, or both.
5. The Ministry of Health will not hesitate to take enforcement action against those who fail to comply with the QO requirements.
