MEDICATION ASSISTANCE FUND PLUS FOR HEALTHCARE BILLS

We refer to Low Lip’s letter “加强版药物援助基金的不足” (15 January 2026).

The Medication Assistance Fund Plus (MAF+) is a discretionary financial assistance scheme that provides additional support to patients who face challenges affording higher cost, unsubsidised medications. Similar to other financial assistance schemes like MediFund,  MAF+ is applied only after insurance and MediSave have been tapped. This ensures that the financial assistance is directed to those with the greatest financial needs.  

In Low’s case, his medication bill was fully covered by MediSave. Hence, no MAF+ assistance was applied, and no cash payment was necessary for his bill.

加强版药物援助基金是酌情提供的经济援助计划

谨答复《联合早报·交流站》于1月15日刊登的刘立读者投函《加强版药物援助基金的不足》：

加强版药物援助基金（Medication Assistance Fund Plus，简称MAF Plus）是一项酌情提供的经济援助计划，旨在为难以负担高价、无津贴药物的病患提供额外帮助。与健保基金（MediFund）等其他经济援助计划类似，MAF Plus仅在病患已动用保险和保健储蓄后方可使用。此举确保经济援助能精准惠及经济需求最迫切的人士。

就刘先生的个案而言，他的药物账单已由保健储蓄全额支付，因此，无须动用MAF Plus援助，也无须为账单支付任何现金。

卫生部保健财务司总司长罗婉清
