Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung to attend G20 Health Ministerial Meeting and Joint Finance and Health Ministerial Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

           Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung will attend the G20 Health Ministerial Meeting (HMM) and Joint Finance and Health Ministerial Meeting (JFHMM) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 30 to 31 October 2024.

2.             The G20 HMM and JFHMM are annual meetings comprising 19 countries, the European Union, the African Union, and invited countries. Singapore is attending the G20 HMM and JFHMM as a guest country at the invitation of Brazil, which currently holds the G20 presidency.

3.             The G20 HMM and JFHMM will discuss global health issues. These include:

·       Strengthening pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response;

·       Building up capabilities for vaccine and therapeutics development and manufacturing; and

·       Adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to tackle emerging health challenges, such as the effects of climate change on health.

4.             Mr Ong will meet his counterparts at the Meetings. He will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
