Following Myanmar’s agreement at the Special ASEAN Foreign Minister meeting on 19 May 2008 to allow ASEAN member countries to send in medical teams to assist in their relief effort, the Ministry of Health (MOH) will be deploying two medical teams in Myanmar.
A total of 4 doctors and 8 nurses will provide medical support as part of the Government of Singapore’s contribution to the relief effort. They will be bringing along medical supplies to treat water-borne diseases.
The two medical teams are formed by doctors and nurses from the various hospitals and institutions in the SingHealth and National Healthcare Group clusters. The details of the 12 volunteers are at Annex.
The medical team together with an MOH official will depart for Myanmar on 22 May 2008 afternoon on a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) C-130 transport aircraft from Paya Lebar Air Base. The deployment will be for a period of 2 weeks.
