NEW AGE WELL KAKIS PROGRAMME TO OFFER VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES AT OVER 100 COMMUNITY CARE TOUCHPOINTS
30 October 2026
Older Singaporeans will have more opportunities to contribute to their communities through the Age Well Kakis programme. The programme, which aims to encourage sustained volunteerism and strengthen mutual care in the community, was launched today by Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Health, at the National Celebration of Seniors event.
2. Age Well Kakis builds on existing senior volunteerism efforts under Age Well SG, which supports seniors to lead active, purposeful lives and stay involved in their communities. As of October 2026, volunteering opportunities are available at more than 100 community care touchpoints, such as Active Ageing Centres and other services by Community Care Organisations (CCOs). In the next two years, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) aim to engage around 16,500 participants in up to 700,000 volunteering opportunities within the community care sector.
Recognising and Supporting Sustained Volunteerism
3. Under Age Well Kakis, participants can be matched with a range of volunteering opportunities. These include supporting the activities held at AACs, delivering meals to vulnerable seniors, and accompanying seniors to medical appointments. These opportunities enable participants to contribute their time and skills to support other seniors to age well in the community, while remaining active and socially connected themselves. Participants will have the flexibility to choose tasks that best suit their interests, abilities and availability.
4. Tasks will typically be completed within a day but vary in duration, with some taking only a few hours to complete. To recognise their contributions and encourage sustained participation, participants will receive cash or in-kind (e.g. vouchers) stipends as tokens of appreciation for completing volunteering tasks. Stipend arrangements may vary according to the nature and duration of the volunteering opportunities, with the amount and payment arrangements determined by the respective organisations.
Expanding Volunteering Opportunities in Community Care
5. These efforts will build on existing practices within the community care sector, where volunteers support other seniors and complement the work of care staff. By matching participants with opportunities that suit their strengths and interests, Age Well Kakis seeks to support more to stay engaged, connected, and purposeful, while strengthening community participation and mutual help. MOH will work with AIC and CCOs to grow the Age Well Kakis programme and expand the range of volunteering opportunities available.
Strengthening Participation and Mutual Help in the Wider Community
6. Age Well Kakis is part of a broader initiative by MOH and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) to create more opportunities for Singaporeans to contribute to their communities. This also includes the People’s Association’s (PA) Neighbourhood Kakis programme that was first piloted in 2024. Together, Age Well Kakis and Neighbourhood Kakis aim to engage around 30,000 participants over two years and expand opportunities to contribute across community care and neighbourhood settings.
7. Individuals aged 50 and above who are interested in participating in Age Well Kakis may access the AIC website (opens in new tab), contact AIC’s hotline (1800-650-6060) or approach their nearest AAC to find out more about the opportunities available.
