Question No. 2391
To ask the Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health (a) what is the updated construction progress and completion timeline for the Eastern General Hospital Campus; and (b) what specific interim healthcare initiatives will be implemented ahead of its physical opening to support healthcare capacity in the eastern region.
Answer
1 Construction of the Eastern General Hospital (EGH) Campus is progressing. The campus is scheduled to open progressively from 2029.
2 Even before its physical opening, EGH has already started delivering healthcare services to residents in the East. EGH is working with Changi General Hospital (CGH) to offer Mobile Inpatient Care @ Home (MIC@Home), allowing clinically suitable patients to receive hospital-level care in their homes. EGH specialists also support primary care doctors through Virtual Professional Consultation, enabling more patients to be managed in the community without unnecessary referrals to hospitals.
3 We are also expanding healthcare capacity in the East ahead of EGH’s opening. St Andrew’s Community Hospital in Bedok has been operating 100 community hospital beds and 140 Transitional Care Facility beds since end-2025. CGH is also undertaking infrastructural works to add about 160 acute hospital beds by 2027.
