Dialysis services

Dialysis is the main treatment modality for patients with kidney failure. There are two main types of dialysis: Haemodialysis (HD) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD):

  • Haemodialysis (HD) (i.e. “blood dialysis”), where patients will have to travel to the Kidney Dialysis Centre for their treatment 2 to 3 times a week.

  • Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) (i.e. “water dialysis”) can be done at home, providing convenience and independence for patients.

MOH provides subsidies for community HD and PD services by government-funded long-term care providers to ensure that patients have access to more affordable care. For more information on the available subsidies, visit the subsidies for Community Dialysis Services page.

Patients with kidney failure should discuss their treatment options and plans with their doctors.
