PROVISION OF INTRAVENOUS INFUSION OF VITAMINS, GLUTATHIONE AND HORMONAL TREATMENT IN LICENSED HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS

   It has come to Ministry's attention that some clinics are offering the following therapies which are not evidence based: 

  • Intravenous (IV) Infusion Vitamin B & C for herpes zoster, boosting the immune system for patients on chemotherapy and rehydration following fever and diarrhoea, 
  • IV Glutathione for fatigue, 
  • IV injections of progesterone, oestrogen, testosterone, DHEA and thyroid hormones to treat cognitive decline, weight gain, oesteoporosis, skin ageing, fibromyalgia and sleep disorders and 
  • Testosterone for hormonal replacement. 

2   The Ministry would like to remind all licensees that non-evidence based treatment shall not be provided in licensed healthcare institution. Such non-evidence based treatments shall only be conducted in the context of a formal clinical trial with approval from the Health Science Authority (HSA).

3   Continuing practice of non-evidence based treatment will be referred to Singapore Medical Council for further review and may warrant suspension of clinic license and enforcement actions to be initiated against the licensee and practitioner.
