Acute hospitals
The healthcare system includes 11 public hospitals offering acute and specialist services, alongside 9 private hospitals, with additional care options such as community hospitals.

Public hospitals
Of the 11 public hospitals, there are 9 acute general hospitals, a women's and children's hospital, and a psychiatry hospital. General hospitals provide multi-disciplinary inpatient, Mobile Inpatient Care at Home (MIC@Home) and specialist outpatient services. With exception of Alexandra Hospital, each general hospital also has a 24-hour emergency department.
We have 10 national specialty centres providing specialised services for cancer, cardiac, eye, skin, neuroscience, infectious diseases and dental care.

What are other options for care once patients are fit for discharge from acute hospitals?
Community Hospitals
Community Hospitals are intermediate inpatient healthcare facilities for patients requiring convalescent rehabilitative and subacute care, such as for stroke, knee/ hip replacement and respiratory infection, usually after stabilisation at an acute hospital and before transitioning to the community or residential facility.

Transitional Care Facilities (TCFs)
To further reduce the strain on our hospital capacities, TCFs started operations to receive medically stable patients from the public healthcare institutions (PHIs) who are waiting to finalise their long-term care arrangements.
