PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION ACTS

  • Medical Registration Act
    • Registration of medical practitioners in Singapore is governed by the Medical Registration Act (Cap 174).

  • Dental Registration Act
    • The Dental Registration Act is an Act to establish the Dental Council, to provide for the registration of dentists and for matters connected therewith.

  • Nurses and Midwives Act
    • The Nurses and Midwives Act is an Act to establish the Singapore Nursing Board, to provide for the registration and enrolment of nurses and the registration of midwives and for matters connected therewith.

  • Pharmacists Registration Act 2007
    • The Pharmacists Registration Act 2007 is an Act to provide for the registration of pharmacists and for purposes connected therewith.

  • Optometrists and Opticians Act
    • Registration of optometrists and opticians in Singapore is governed by the Optometrists and Opticians Act (Act 36 of 2007).

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Act
    • Registration of traditional chinese medicine practitioners is governed by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act (Chapter 333A).

  • Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics Act
    • The information provided in this advisory page serves as a guide to assist in the application for licensing under the Private Hospitals & Medical Clinics (PHMC) Act. Please note that this is NOT a simplified version of the said Act. The Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics (Publicity) Regulations 2004 took effect from 17 May 2004.

  • Human Organ Transplant Act
    • The Human Organ Transplant (Amendment) Bill was passed by Parliament on 6 Jan 2004. The amendments to HOTA are as follows:
      1. Extension of HOTA beyond kidney to also include liver, heart and cornea;
      2. Extension of HOTA beyond deaths due to accidents to all causes of death; and
      3. Extension of HOTA beyond cadaveric donation to also regulate living donor organ transplantation. The revised HOTA takes effect on 1 July 2004. 

  • Infectious Diseases Act
    • The Infectious Diseases (ID) Act was enacted in 1976 to prevent the introduction and spread of infectious diseases into Singapore. It is jointly administered by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of the Environment.
    • For the control of infectious disease in Singapore, the ID Act provides for the notification of specified infectious diseases. It enables medical examinations, treatment, post-mortem examinations, epidemiological surveys and investigations to be carried out. 

  • Poisons Act
    • The Poisons Act which was first gazetted in 1939, regulates the importation, possession and sales of potent medical substances (poisons) so as to prevent misuse or illicit diversion of poisons. Poisons are listed under the Poisons Act and are identified by their chemical or generic names. The Poison Rules which are made under the Poisons Act serves to ensure the general safe handling of poisons.

  • The National Registry of Diseases Act (Chapter 201B)

    • The National Registry of Diseases Act was passed to establish the National Registry of Diseases and to provide for the compilation of information on the incidence of certain diseases for use as a basis for the direction of programmes for disease prevention and control, and for purposes connected therewith.
    • The National Registry of Diseases (Cancer Notification) Regulations 2009 took effect from 1 August 2009.
    • The National Registry of Diseases (Single Kidney - Post Nephrectomy (Donor) Notification) Regulations 2009 and the National Registry of Diseases (Liver - Post Hepatic Resection (Donor) Notification) Regulations 2009 took effect from 1 November 2009. The electronic notification via the Health Professional Portal will be available from February 2010 onwards.
